Albarada

Albarada

Brand strategy,
naming, verbal identity,
visual identity, and web design

A new gastronomic landmark at the top of Barcelona

Albarada is a contemporary Catalan restaurant situated in a prime location, with Barcelona at its feet. It is part of METT Hotel Barcelona’s new hospitality project, which reinterprets the historic Gran Hotel La Florida with a modern and global perspective.

From the outset, the challenge was to build a gastronomic brand with its own identity, capable of standing out beyond the physical space and the hotel context. A brand designed to engage with an exceptional architectural and landscape setting, but also to connect naturally with the local community and with discerning international travelers, sensitive to culture, design, and experience.

A serene, evocative voice
with soul

The name Albarada emerged from a strategic and cultural naming process. It is a term with Mediterranean roots evoking dawn, beginnings, and light, while conceptually connecting to the location, the landscape, and the project’s moment of rebirth. We were not looking for a descriptive name or a recognizable gastronomic label. Albarada was conceived as a name with its own distinct identity—easy to pronounce in various languages and capable of sustaining a long-term narrative. It serves as a solid foundation upon which to build the entire brand identity.

From there, we developed its complete verbal identity, viewing it as yet another strategic tool. It defines not only how the brand speaks but also how it positions itself, relates to its audience, and maintains consistency across all touchpoints. Albarada’s voice is serene and approachable—sophisticated yet not distant. It avoids affected tones and industry clichés, focusing instead on clear, sensitive, and honest communication that is always centered on the diner’s experience.

Natural elegance,
unaffected

The visual identity translates this strategic approach into a restrained graphic system rooted in tradition and designed to be timeless. Typography, color, and composition are handled with restraint, prioritizing legibility, coherence, and harmony with the architectural space.

The design does not seek to take center stage, but rather to complement the setting. It engages in a dialogue with the interior design and the gastronomic experience, reinforcing a sense of quiet, refined quality. Every visual element follows a clear logic: adding to the identity without interfering with the experience.

Transferring the experience
to the digital environment

Albarada’s website is designed as a functional and coherent extension of the physical space. Beyond aesthetics, the focus is on clarity, intuitive navigation, and a proper information hierarchy. The design constructs a visual narrative aligned with the brand, where image, text, and rhythm work together to immerse the user in the Albarada universe. Everything follows the same logic as the restaurant: warmth, simplicity, and shared time, maximizing functionality without unnecessary complications.

From strategy
to experience

Albarada is a comprehensive branding project developed from scratch, where strategy, naming, verbal identity, visual identity, and website have been built together coherently from the beginning. Every decision reflects a global vision and a clear objective: to create a solid, recognizable gastronomic brand, ready to evolve without losing its essence. This project exemplifies Madstudio’s working method, where design is always the result of careful consideration and every touchpoint has a defined purpose.
